Michele, along with her co-writers and producers (Ne-Yo, Claude Kelly, Rodney Jerkins) and LA Reid have crafted together a vibrant album of supremely melodic, adventurous pop/soul outings underpinned by her distinct vocal style that beg repeat listens.
The challenge was obviously how to realign Michele’s natural deeper, smokey jazz/soul delivery into a hip, contemporary context. By giving her songs packed with strong melodic structures the fit is seamless. The title track, “Epiphany” penned by Ne-Yo, is a catchy mid-point between her last album in this but is overshadowed by “Notebook”, an infectious mid-tempo soul outing in 6/8 time, boosted with catchy background sub hooks and her dynamic vocal range.
Things take a step to the left with the strong pop cross-over styled “Playing Our Song” and the sure-to be-single, “Another One”, again penned by Ne-Yo.
